Flowers in Desert- Thanks Logistics

Today, I had an eventful day in which I visited Dubai flower centre- Thanks to Vikram Shetty, our faculty for this week. I never thought or tried to strain myself pontificating on numerous challenges industry faces in appeasing the demand of flowers in the market. The task becomes exponentially difficult when it comes to a city like Dubai where distributing flowers is a big question mark, leave alone growing it, due to an extreme warm conditions in this part of the world. Dubai flower city not only plays an instrumental role in storing and distributing flowers but also in other perishables like sea food etc. Perfect location i.e. right near to the airport provides a strategic advantage to the centre in dealing with perishables. How the perishables travel from one part of the world to other part of the world in no time, How it is transported from ports to warehouse, how it is stored at different temperatures, how companies are implemeting strategies like late product differentiation and adding value right at warehouse, what kind of warehouse facility it takes to deal with perishables and host of other questions got answered today, and gave me good enough reasons to sleep with the satisfaction of learning something new today
